Part of a collaboration between Charlap Hyman & Herrero and Patterson Flynn, the Serpiente Rug is a 14-foot handmade abaca runner that commands every room it crosses. Inspired by the bold graphic legacy of Alexander Calder's tapestries, the Serpiente Rug was designed by award-winning studio Charlap Hyman & Herrero, recognized with the 2026 National Design Award for Interior Design by the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. Every sinuous stripe and forked tongue is hand-coiled by skilled artisans from 100% natural abaca fiber, delivering a striking graphic energy that's equal parts sophisticated and playful. At over 14 feet long, the Serpiente is the ultimate natural-fiber runner, a sculptural, floor-level work of art that transforms hallways, entryways, and grand living spaces alike.

Principals Adam Charlap Hyman and Andre Herrero, whose backgrounds are in interior design and architecture, lead a practice that considers all aspects of the built environment, from site plan to furniture. Working in various typologies—including houses, set designs and stores—CHH endeavors to consider divergent art forms and the experience of multiple senses.
